Editorial Policy & How We Review Watches
This page explains how we research, write, and maintain the content on We Know Watches. We believe transparency about our process is essential to earning and keeping your trust.
Our Review Process
When we publish a watch review or buying guide, here is the process that produced it:
- Hands-On Examination. Whenever possible, we source and handle the watch ourselves. We wear it, operate every function, measure its accuracy on a timegrapher, and photograph it in natural light — not press photos.
- Technical Research. We verify movement specs, materials, and dimensions against manufacturer documentation and independent watchmaker sources — not Wikipedia or other blogs.
- Expert Review. For technical guides (movement teardowns, repair procedures, authentication), we have a working watchmaker review the draft before publication.
- Comparison Context. Every review places the watch in context: what competes with it at this price point, what trade-offs you’re making, and who this watch is actually for.
- Fact-Checking. A second team member verifies all specs, prices, and factual claims before publication.
How We Handle Manufacturer Samples
On rare occasions, manufacturers or authorized dealers lend us review units. When this happens, we:
- Disclose the arrangement prominently at the top of the review.
- Return the watch after the review period (typically 2-4 weeks).
- Maintain full editorial control — the manufacturer does not see or approve the review before publication.
The vast majority of watches we review are personally owned by our team members, purchased at retail, or borrowed from fellow collectors.
Affiliate Links & Advertising
We Know Watches participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. When you click a link to a retailer and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no additional cost to you.
Affiliate commissions never influence our recommendations. Our buying guides and product recommendations are based on research, hands-on experience, and objective criteria. We do not select products to feature based on commission rates. For full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Content Updates & Accuracy
Watch prices, availability, and market conditions change. We review and update our articles on this schedule:
- Buying Guides & Price-Focused Articles: Reviewed every 6 months. Last-reviewed date is shown at the top of each article.
- Technical Guides & How-To Articles: Reviewed annually or when a manufacturer releases a relevant update (new movement generation, discontinued model, etc.).
- Brand History & Reference Articles: Reviewed annually for factual accuracy.
If you spot outdated information, please email [email protected] with the article URL. We correct verified errors within 1 business day and add a dated correction note.
AI Content Policy
We do not publish AI-generated content without human review. Every article on this site is written, edited, and fact-checked by humans with domain expertise. We use AI tools only for research assistance (summarizing technical documents, transcribing interviews) — never for generating publishable text without thorough review and rewriting.
Corrections History
We maintain a public log of substantive corrections. When we correct a factual error, we add a dated note to the article and list it here:
No corrections have been filed since our editorial policy was established (May 2026). This section will be updated as corrections are made.
