About We Know Watches
We Know Watches is an independent, expert-driven publication dedicated to helping watch enthusiasts make better decisions — whether you’re buying your first automatic watch, maintaining a family heirloom, or building a serious collection.
Who We Are
We are a small team of watch collectors, researchers, and writers based in the United States. Between us, we’ve owned over 500 watches across every major brand and price point. Our editors have bought and sold at auction, worked directly with authorized dealers, visited watch manufacturing facilities in Switzerland and Japan, and spent countless hours at the workbench learning movement repair and regulation.
We do not outsource our content to anonymous freelancers. Every article on this site is researched, written, and fact-checked by team members who have personally handled the watches and movements being discussed.
How We Work
- Hands-On Research. We source and handle watches whenever possible. For vintage and rare pieces, we consult primary sources, manufacturer archives, and professional watchmakers.
- Expert Consultation. For technical topics — movement teardowns, service procedures, authentication — we verify our content with working watchmakers and authorized service centers.
- Original Photography & Data. We create our own comparison tables, accuracy measurements, and reference guides. We don’t repackage press releases or manufacturer spec sheets.
- Regular Updates. Watch prices, availability, and market conditions change. We revisit and update our guides at least annually, with the last-reviewed date clearly displayed.
Our Commitment to Independence
We have never accepted payment for a review. When manufacturers send us review units, we disclose it prominently in the article. When we use affiliate links (primarily through Amazon and authorized dealer partners), we disclose it clearly. Our buying guides and recommendations are driven by research and experience, not by which brand pays the highest commission.
Our Expertise
We specialize in:
- Watch Movements: From the Seiko 7S26 to the Rolex 3235, we understand how calibers work and how they perform in the real world.
- Brand Histories: We trace the evolution of major brands — not just marketing stories, but the engineering, ownership changes, and design decisions that shaped modern watches.
- Buying & Value: We track actual resale prices, dealer margins, and market trends to help you understand what a watch is really worth.
- Maintenance & Repair: Our step-by-step guides are written with input from professional watchmakers, with clear warnings about what you should and shouldn’t attempt at home.
- Authentication: We document serial number locations, movement tells, and documentation checks for every major brand.
